At this point, many writers say something about their motivations and aspirations; I merely offer the following.

It is taken from the script (by Shelagh Delaney) of the film Charlie Bubbles (1967) which tells the story of the eponymous “hero” who returns to his native Manchester after finding fame and fortune in London as a novelist:

WAITER: “Are you still working sir, or do you just do the writing now?”

CHARLIE: “No…I just do the writing.”
